The month of May will be the month when everything musically relevant will happen in the whole of 2013.

First of all it will be the end of my degree at Leeds College of Music, as on Thursday the 30th I will perform my graduation recital.

Before that I will be performing with my vocal quartet in my Musical Direction recital, which will take place on Friday the 17th.

A subject I did want to talk a bit about was the logistic of travelling abroad with instruments, an issue which has been raised by this amazing opportunity. For me as a musician, the concept of my prized instrument in any kind of cargo area really does not make me feel good. I did some research into the issue, and found that there was not a fixed rule on the matter and that circumstances differed from country to country and from airline to airline. Luckily, with KLM I can buy a seat for the guitar for the taxi price (minus tax) which is still a lot to Bucharest but not too bad seeing as I get to sit right next to my pride and joy all the way there! So I was a bit lucky, but it got me thinking. I read lots of horror stories about smashed-up instruments etc. Why has this issue not been addressed properly by airlines? I read recently that the MU was battling for legislation to formalise a system for travelling abroad with instruments. That is great news. But come on airlines, stop dragging your feet! Musicians have needed to travel abroad since…forever! Maybe if the 1st class lounge wasn’t so vast we could fit our humble instruments in somewhere…

Aeroplanes at Brescia @ 606 club

606_Logo_Hi, I thought I would write a post about an up-coming gig that I am very excited about.

On the 2nd April my band “Aeroplanes at Brescia” will be performing at the famous London jazz venue, the 606 club. We earned this fantastic opportunity by winning the LCM “606 club” competition which took place a couple of weeks ago and featured some other great acts.

I would like to thank Dave Walsh, Jamil Sheriff and Simon Kaylor in particular for this opportunity and for being so supportive.

It will be our first gig in London and we have a lot of special material for the gig. I even wrote a song especially for the gig!

Here is a link to the Facebook page so that you can let us know if you’re coming and see updates on the event etc.
